PROSPER’s Ceylan earns alumni achievement award from U of Illinois alma mater

Halil Ceylan, director of the Program for Sustainable Pavement Engineering and Research (PROSPER), was recognized by the University of Illinois Alumni Association (UIAA) with its Alumni Achievement Award this year.

The award will officially be presented to Ceylan on October 13 at the Alumni Awards Gala, a signature event of the University of Illinois’ Homecoming activities.

“I am truly humbled and honored with this highly prestigious recognition by the University of Illinois Alumni Association, UIAA Board of Directors, and Awards Committee. I am very grateful to my peers seeing me worthy of such an outstanding award and to my mentors and colleagues for their support and guidance over the years,” said Ceylan, who is also a Pitt-Des Moines, Inc. endowed professor in Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) at Iowa State University.

He continued, “The training, mentoring, and excellent education I received from the University of Illinois shaped my career as an educator, researcher, professor, and servant leader.”

The award—the highest conferred by the UIAA—is presented to alumni who have attained outstanding success and national or international distinction in their chosen profession or life’s work. The selection committee includes fellow University of Illinois alumni. Ceylan was one of three alumni to earn the award in 2022.

Ceylan, who earned his MS and PhD from the University of Illinois, was previously recognized by the university’s Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) Alumni Association with its Distinguished Alumnus Award.

More information about the award is available from the University of Illinois’ CEE Department.
